What is the difference between the fats of badgers, bears

Traditional medicine has been testing its remedies for hundreds or sometimes even thousands of years. Among the most popular ones there are fats of hibernating animals. From ancient times people understood the effect of curing with the help of such fats which not only give a wonderful therapeutic benefit but also are a great preventive agent. The composition of the fats of bears, badgers and marmots is unique: it is difficult to find anywhere else such an amount of vitamins, micro and macro elements, polyunsaturated acids.

Hibernators’ fats in fact help to deal with a whole number of diseases very well. Why is the composition of hibernators’ fats different

Of course, the fats of different animals have different characteristics.  Lifestyle, nutrition influence the fat composition. Mainly hibernators have higher body temperature than during the period of winter sleep. For example, bears are awake having the average body temperature of 37 C, badgers – 37,8 C, marmots – 36 C. It is interesting that all such animals even being awake have great fluctuations in the body temperature. And during winter sleep the temperature falls sharply reaching, in average, the temperature of the environment. Metabolic processes also slow down. These parameters highly depend on the depth of hibernating the animal goes into: for instance, bears and badgers sleep much less deep than other species. But marmots go into the state of deep dormancy. Marmot’s body temperature falls much sharper. That is why the composition of fats of such animals can’t but differ. And if marmots’ breathing rate lowers during hibernation sharply from 25 to 4-5 a minute, than bears and badgers’ one remains practically unchanged. All these indicators are influenced by fat metabolism, the amount of fatty acids, which the animal has saved before hibernation. For example, the bat hardly ever save useful fats.


However, all three animals are considered to have the same qualities of the fat saved for hibernation:

  • The fat prevents the appearance of hazardous microorganisms and suppresses their activity
  • Malignant tumors are not found in the hibernators’ bodies
  • The fat provides the body with the necessary amount of energy and nutrition

The fat also consists of polyunsaturated fatty acids. The fat of each hibernator is a separate, completely unique spectrum of useful elements. The most widespread fatty acids which bears, marmots and badgers have are the following: 

Omega 3 acid group, among which is

  • Linolenoic acid plays an important role for nails, hair and skin. It helps to burn fat, lowers the level of bad cholesterol, successfully fights with depression

Omega 6 acid group, among which is

  • Linolic acid is a good assistant in maintaining skin and hair in a healthy condition, it normalizes blood pressure, weight, stabilizes digestive processes, boosts the immune system, prevents the appearance of malignant tumors

Omega 9 acid group, among which is

  • Oleic acid is an active cell generator that is why it helps when having burns and other skin damages. It strengthens the vessels

What is the difference in the composition of fats of bears, badgers and marmots

In spite of the health-improving influence on the human body, which is common for all hibernators, there are different recommendations concerning their usage. As it was mentioned above, it is connected with different combination of polyunsaturated fatty acids in the composition of the fats of these animals.  

1. The leader among the animals is a bear: according to research conducted in the countries where historically bear fat is used for curing people, its beneficial value is explained by the diverse bear’s diet. It is practically omnivorous, its endocrine system is well-developed and biologically active, useful elements are digested excellently. In the composition of bear fat there are amino and nucleic acids, glycosides, ginsenosides, cytamines, vitamin complex, Omega 3,6 and 9, ferrum, calcium, cuprum and other elements. Due to these factors bear fat 

  • Significantly increases  body defenses 
  • Fights with aging really well
  • Helps to normalize the work of digestive system, while having peptic ulcer 
  • For ages the effectiveness of bear fat has been proved both for internal and external use while having a wide range of respiratory diseases 

2. Badger fat has been known to different peoples from ancient times. In particular, it was used in North America for curing even the hardest freezing injuries. It consists of vitamins of the РР group, folic acid, carotinoinds and other elements including polyunsaturated fatty acids. Badger fat is actively used
