The Farm for Hibernators
From the second part of 2013 Fitosila Ltd has been financing the project which is devoted to the protection of hibernators’ population in the Republic of Khakassia.
At present there are three sows of badgers and two boars (Meles meles in Latin). The animals are kept in 50 square meter dens in the conditions which are very close to natural.
This project for Fitosila is an opportunity to examine the possibility of badgers’ management and captive propagation. Commercial animal breeding isn’t the aim of the farm. After having off-springs we are planning to set the animals free into the natural environment and thus to maintain the animal population at the necessary level.
Below you may see the live video of the dens with the help of the vebcam. Badgers are nocturnal animals and if you want to see them, it is better to watch the video in the evening, local time (GMT +8, MSK +4).
Geographically the farm is situated in the Republic of Khakassia west to the Abakan city.
The project is managed by Igor Oreshkov, the Chairman of Khakassia Republican non-governmental organization of hunters and fishermen.
If you are in the Republic of Khakassia or planning to visit this South-Siberian Republic, want to go to the farm and see everything with your own eyes, we’ll be glad to organize an excursion for you.
If you have any questions about visiting the farm, you can contact the Khakassia Republican non-governmental organization of hunters and fishermen at the address: 10 Chkalova str., Abakan. The phone number is +7 (3902) 222 808
